Most people probably don’t know that Tresse Sumrall was an ER and trauma nurse before focusing her efforts on the family business. She and her husband, Austin, are owners of the Sumrall Restaurant Group, White Pillars, and Siren Social Club. It was Chef Austin’s passion for cooking and their shared pride in showcasing Mississippi cuisine that inspired the career change.
“We are set to open a boutique hotel and restaurant in downtown Gulfport in the next few months with Hotel Vela and Siren Social Club,” she says. “It’s going to be a cool addition to the Coast hospitality scene.”
She enjoys being a part of people’s special celebrations at White Pillars. “The restaurant business is hard but I believe in our ability to roll with the punches,” she says.
The Sumralls and their son, Ollie, are parishioners of St. James Catholic Church and members of Revelers Mardi Gras group.
