Devoted Heart Home Care
Seniors have a dedicated advocate in Devoted Heart Home Care. CEO Vanessa Neptune first realized her connection with seniors when she worked as a dialysis technician. “During that time, I had the opportunity to interact closely with senior patients, listening to their stories and learning
from their wisdom,” she says. “This experience underscored the importance of providing compassionate and respectful care to the elderly. It solidified my commitment to working in senior care.”
She is joined in this endeavor by Office Manager Yawanda Robinson, who says she loves being able
to help people that aren’t able to help themselves. “Whether physically, emotionally, or mentally, being able to be a light in someone else’s darkness is an amazing thing.”
Neptune has always had a close connection with seniors and loves listening to their stories and advice. “I believe seniors are a blessing, full of wisdom,” she says. “My goal is to make a positive impact in their lives and provide them with the support they need.
I am constantly learning and taking in valuable wisdom from seniors. Every day is an opportunity to gain new insights and understanding.”
Her business celebrates 10 years in October. “As we reach this milestone, our focus is on growth and sustainability,” Neptune says. “We are dedicated
to enhancing the work environment and benefits for our staff, ensuring they have the support and resources they need. We’ve been focusing on building a stronger, more supportive environment for both our staff and clients, fostering a positive impact in our community for years to come.”
Neptune considers her greatest successes to be her
children, husband, family, friends, and office staff. “To me, success is having people who shower you with unconditional love and support, and being able to reciprocate that love and support,” she said.
For Robinson, success is being a mother to her five beautiful daughters, Ja’Myria, Amya, Johnnica, Daviyana, and Danyla, as well as becoming a CNA, CMA, phlebotomist, dialysis technician, and receiving her AAS in Applied Science in Business Management.
An obstacle Neptune has overcome is the challenge of being a business owner. “It comes with all types of hurdles and curveballs, from navigating financial uncertainties to managing a team and adapting to market changes.”
Robinson’s health has been one of her greatest obstacles. “I was bitten by a brown recluse spider and spent months in a hospital, which caused me
to have to learn how to walk and talk again,” she recalls. “Another obstacle was getting COVID and being hospitalized – I was barely able to breathe and had to be on oxygen when I was sent home.” Both consider supporting other woman-owned businesses to be a pillar of inclusivity and diversity. By doing this, we help to create opportunities for growth and innovation while promoting gender equality. It also strengthens communities and builds networks of mutual support,” says Neptune. Adds Robinson, “Be the role model you want to see. Give growth where you would like to see growth. Always be willing to help someone else achieve.”
Spending quality time with family is something both hold dear. “These moments together are incredibly meaningful and cherished,” says Neptune.
