smoothly energized is to get outside and explore the beautiful Gulf Coast by going for a walk.
“I think people underestimate the power of getting outside and just walking,” Lord said. “Walking outside, in nature, is just good for your whole body, your soul, and your mental health.”
Amy Parker, a licensed aesthetician at Modern Dermatology & Aesthetics, said don’t forget about the sunscreen while taking those wellness walks.
“You always hear people say, sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen, but really and truthfully it is so important,” Parker said. “It combats environmental toxins, the early signs of aging, wrinkles, discolorations, and, of course, skin cancer.”
Parker added good nutrition without a lot of sugar and processed food is key to a healthy lifestyle and cautioned women about running out and buying the latest trendy beauty products.
“It’s important to do your research,” Parker said. “A lot of this stuff is toxic, and it gets into the bloodstream and then it does get into your body.”
And research should not end with beauty products.
Dorothy Roberts, owner of Robin’s Nest in the Pass and Roberts Place Cafe’, added women should never
stop learning about their physical health or the medical history of their family members. Roberts is recovering from hip replacement surgery and said it was vital for her to research the disease that was causing her pain, to strengthen her body before surgery, and to build a recovery support team.
“We often think that creaky bones are just the price for growing older,” Roberts said. “I had suffered with arthritis in my hip for years. Learn as much as you can about the disease process. Arthritis doesn’t go away. It gets progressively worse over time. There are things you can do to help manage the pain, but ultimately surgery was the best option for me. Do your homework by reviewing potential surgeons. Questions such as, what is their surgical technique and what are their results, are questions to help you determine who to use. Seek out a second opinion so you can make the best decision.”
And it seems these days, women need double-duty strength to stay strong amidst the constant attention that family and work demand. No matter how you juggle all the aspects of your day, make it a priority to create a daily routine that includes well-thought-out enhancement of the mind, body, and soul for positive overall health.
