For 25 years, Dorothy Roberts worked as a social worker for the state. It was challenging yet rewarding. In 2015, she retired from that and started a new chapter in her life: opening a gallery gift shop that celebrates the creative spirit. Thus, Robin’s Nest in the Pass was born.
Roberts loves being able to support other woman-owned businesses. “I know some of the additional challenges we face,” she explains. “Sometimes women are discounted as not being business savvy enough, so supporting another woman with her business may offer her the motivation she needs to be successful.”
When not busy working, Roberts loves to go sit at the coastline and eat her lunch. She enjoys watching the water and hearing the seagulls talking to each other. “It’s very restful for me. Being the owner of two businesses,
I lead a full and sometimes hectic life, so these quiet moments help center and calm my mind.”

Dorothy Roberts has worked in the food industry since she was young. Her first job was being the salad girl at the Triangle Mess Hall on Keesler Air Force before she went to college. She then opened a catering business and designed wedding cakes in the ‘80s. “That was the beginning of my dream to own a café!” she says.
Roberts had insecurities about moving into the world of food service because of the many moving parts,
but surrounded herself with people who know the business and learns from them each day to keep the café thriving.
“I love meeting people who come into the cafe who knew my parents, the namesake for the café,” Roberts explains. “Hearing their stories of what my parents meant to them always makes me smile.” She loves hearing laughter in the dining rooms and having people from all over the United States come enjoy a meal.
