Nancy Mellon.
Nancy Mellon is
a Jill of All Trades. Among her past careers, she owned a clothing boutique and was a wealth manager for over three decades. She currently describes herself as a business
consultant and “problem solver.”
From Memphis to New Orleans to Manhattan to the
Gulf Coast, Mellon has gathered wisdom from a variety of experiences that she uses to help people every day. “I work
with municipalities and companies, connecting people to solve issues.” But she has also found a way to stay in the fashion business. Introduced to Cabi, clothing sold primarily through personal in-home stylists, Mellon fell in love with the opportunity to work with women on a very personal level. “Fashion is a passion for me. I love quality clothes. I had an exquisitely dressed grandmother and I know clothes make a big difference in how we feel. As a stylist I can help women feel good about themselves.”
Working from home supports Mellon’s upbeat attitude. She
has a desk in her bedroom, and she has turned her guest room into a dressing room. Clients drop by her home to shop on a regular basis. And when she needs to do more cerebral tasks, she separates herself from her husband, who also works from home, by going out on her back deck with her labrador retrievers, Magnolia, Moonshine, and Foxy. Or she might go to an upstairs balcony where she can be “in the trees.”
“What’s an office?” she asks. “The world has morphed. I miss being around people occasionally, but I like that the interruption factor is minimal. At home I can stay more focused and stay
in my zone. My creativity moves to a higher level.” She makes appointments to meet clients in their offices when she needs to, and small style shows all along the Gulf Coast provide rewarding interactions with women from all walks of life.
Mellon’s New Orleans-style home in Bay St. Louis’s Historic Old Town is filled with a colorful collection of memorabilia and photographs. “I am surrounded by memories of people and places that I have loved. I think people are much more comfortable in personalized spaces. They make you feel better.” And in Mellon’s case, it also makes her a very productive woman.
