Redfish
When Giant Redfish Spawn, They Terrorize Everything!
story and photos by John N. Felsher
Most people consider redfish “marsh fish,” but the spot-tailed marauders spend most of their lives in deep water.
Juvenile redfish grow up in the marshes, bays and estuaries. About the time redfish
measure 20 inches long, most reach sexual maturity. Males
generally mature a bit earlier
than females, usually at
about five years
old.
Jen Carroll shows off
a redfish she caught.
In late summer and early fall, big redfish come close to shore to spawn.
