ROTC programs are awarded scholarships and
living stipends, so long as they spend the required years in their branch of choice as an officer post- graduation. For those hoping to enlist out of high school, each branch of the military offers its own tuition assistance programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. For active-duty service members post-9/11, the G.I. Bill gives aid for
college education to either the service members or their children. The military also provides excellent retirement benefits; twenty years of service meets the lowest retirement qualification. If a service member retires after 30 years of service, they will receive 75 percent of their final base pay in retirement.
Navy servicewoman Anna Arias tells everygirl.com, “As long as you are doing it for the right reasons, have a plan, and – most importantly – the right attitude, you will succeed in the service. I promise! The military provided me with a tremendous amount of benefits such as world travel, leadership opportunities, and covered education, just to name
a few.”
Joining the military is a big commitment; women
interested in a military career can reach out to the servicewomen they know for advice or talk with a recruitment officer from the branches they’re most interested in.
