Island School of Performing Arts (ISPA) has been a Gulfport community liaison since 2009. The studio offers a wide variety of dance classes to students ages 2-18, recreational through pr- professional. But under the direction of Casey Hild, ISPA’s reach goes far beyond the ballet barre.
Hild has cultivated a strong relationship with the City of Gulfport, many local schools, and charitable foundations. Students of all ages develop a love of dance and service and have many opportunities to perform beyond an annual recital.
She has been a firm believer that the arts are for EVERYONE, and that dance training translates to life training. She, alongside her entire staff at ISPA, maintains
an environment that nurtures the entire dancer: technically, emotionally, morally, and spiritually. ISPA is invested in creating a lifelong love of dance and healthy dancers that take the lessons they’ve learned in the studio and on the stage with them long after graduation.

On a trip to Spain, Sommer Canon took notice of how many corner cafes, specialty boutiques, and bodegas there are. This became her main inspiration to open Boho: Biloxi Social House. “I believe that Downtown Biloxi was the perfect backdrop for a rich, central commercial hub where community meets art, meets commerce,” she explains.
Traveling has made an impact on Canon’s career, especially in her decision to open Boho. She credits the opportunity to see and experience other places and cultures as a source of creativity. It’s encouraged a sense of professional exploration for her.
Canon loves supporting local business
women because, “We are smart, creative, and absolutely capable. In what can sometimes professionally seem very male saturated, it is important that women are equally represented, and that our voices, ideas, and opinions are equally present and known.”
