Who or what inspired you to pursue your current career? I have always enjoyed helping people. In school I really liked science and psychology. Eventually I learned about the field of occupational therapy. It is a great combination of the two. You get to learn a lot about the body and brain, but you also learn how to incorporate functional and meaningful activities into the patient’s treatment to help motivate them to get well — physically, cognitively and spiritually.
What I like best about what I do is: Helping people! I have amazing opportunities everyday to help serve our patients, community and our incredible staff at Encompass. I am lucky to lead a strong group of individuals who are passionate about what they do and who really care about our patients. I am also fortunate to be a member of a strong leadership team.
Advice I would give to young female entrepreneurs:
Do what you love and find a way to earn a living while doing it. Also, be flexible in growing yourself and your business. Know there will be certain things along the way you might not enjoy so much but learn and grow from them, letting those experiences bring clarity to what you really want to achieve. Passion is contagious — let it shine in all your interactions.
My greatest successes have been: My marriage of 22 years to my wonderful husband Tom and my two amazing daughters, Olivia, 18, and Amelia, 15. I am proud of my career and especially the opportunities that have been offered to me at Encompass, but without a supportive family, I would not be able to achieve what I have.
