Owning a business is the American dream for many, and with this dream come challenges faced by both men and women: the business plan, the research, the location, the nancing, and the fortitude to stay consistent with the products and services. But as women, we often face additional challenges. Being recognized. Being seen. Being heard. Being called by our names and not “honey” or “babe.” These are endearments reserved for our signi cant others and those we truly hold dear.
Every 50 years or so, it seems women have to speak out. The Bronte sisters of the 1800s. Alice Paul and the suffragette movement of the ‘20s. Gloria Steinem in the ‘70s. The millennials and the Take Back the Night movement of now. Calling women by their given names in both social and business environments can help to change this trend. Women have names – mine is Beth.
