Make a difference in the the lives of nursing home residents on September 7 by volunteering your time! Adopt a Grandparent is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to honoring the elderly with a simple gift: a visit.
Studies have shown that 50 percent of elderly people who live in nursing homes have close to no relatives, and
46 percent have no living children. This can leave them feeling lonely and isolated. Adopt a Grandparent day is all about making a difference in the lives of senior citizens in South Mississippi.
On the Saturday before Grandparents Day, volunteers will visit with the elderly for one hour, encouraging them
with activities and letting them know that someone does care. This simple act can make all the difference. Last year, Adopt a Grandparent was able to put smiles on the faces of over 800 senior citizens and hopes to impact even more this year.

Rapiscan Systems Classic Launches
BIRDIES FOR CHARITY DRIVE FOR 2020 story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster photo courtesy of Rapiscan Systems Classic
The Rapiscan Systems Classic will launch the 2020 Birdies for Charity Drive for local charities on Wednesday, September 25 at 8:30 a.m. at the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport. Any registered 501(c)3 organization in the lower six counties is eligible to participate in Birdies for Charity presented by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Once qualified and enrolled, charities will have the ability
to solicit pledges based on the number of birdies made by PGA TOUR Champions’ players during the Classic.
“Through the program, individuals and corporations are given the opportunity to
make a one-time or a per-birdie donation to the eligible charity
of their choice,” says Mary Wesche, Rapiscan Systems Classic community outreach manager. “The charities receive 100 percent of every pledge collected, and there is no risk or out-of-pocket expenses.”
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation also provides matching funds, a percentage that is paid to each charity based on the total amount of pledges they receive plus the top charities receive additional funds. In
2019, local charities raised over $445,000 through Birdies for Charity.
