ARTS hats off
telling stories with
hats and paintings
Biloxi
artist Jerika
Broussard, 29, has
always liked art, but she
tried to study other things in
college.
“I bounced around among majors but art always dragged me back,” she said. She stuck with art and earned
a Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree
from the University of Mississippi.
Broussard has an affinity for hats and is known for her beautiful hat designs. Her millinery creations began in 2009 when her mother was with Broussard’s grandfather at the M.D. Anderson Center in Houston and observed
a female cancer patient with no hair. “My mom suggested I make hats for cancer patients to make them feel better,” Broussard recalls. “That was my inspiration.”
