helped homeless people in the area. “Jamie lives a couple houses down from me. He asked me to go to a homeless camp with him one day close to Christmas. I was so struck by what I saw and experienced there, that I talked with my family and we decided to forgo our own Christmas to purchase new tents and supplies for the people Jamie introduced me to. Jamie does this just because it's part of what he chooses to do; he does it because he cares.”
Daneault said, “The highlight of the night will be the people who have put together gift packages to be auctioned live. They understand that mental health issues can happen to anyone regardless of their race, gender or economic status.”
Mental Health Association of South Mississippi has been working to empower people who suffer from mental illness since 1963.
The 2016 honorees
Tim Bennett is owner of Overtime Sports Company, one of the few minority-owned, independent Major League/Minor League baseball consultants in the country.
Ashley Endris is a licensed realtor and has been the Top Producer for Latter & Blum Shaw Properties, Gulfport for 2009 -2015. She recently was awarded the Platinum Award for the Gulf Coast Association of Realtors.
Leslie Ledet has worked at Mississippi Orthopedic Institute in Gulfport for 10 years. Her favorite memory, if she had to choose, would have to be the day she was told she was breast cancer free.
Dan Nichols earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University, attended Navy Officer Candidate School and was commissioned an officer in the United States Navy. He is now self-employed.
John and Sara Oropesa own Orocon Construction, LLC in Biloxi. They serve on numerous community organization committees. The couple has been married 16 years and are the proud parents of three children.
Mark and Jackie Orgler. Mark is a managing partner of Schwartz, Orgler and Jordan, PLLC; he oversees the Gulfport location. Jackie is originally from Madison, where she was a patient care coordinator for Mississippi Homecare. They have two children, Mckay and Jack.
Ben and Rebecca Powers have two children, Mary Alex and Max. Rebecca, former WLOX News Anchor, is a stay-at-home mother working as the voice of Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, a singer, song writer and performer with the Myles Sharp Band. Ben is a Senior Associate Producer for ESPN covering SEC football and recently the Summer Olympics in Rio.
