COASTNOTES
story by Lynn Lofton
This year’s fall fundraiser for the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art promises to be quite different as it takes
a magical turn with the Wizard of Ohr on September 30 from 7 until 10 p.m. The IP Casino Resort Spa is hosting the event as corporate sponsor and Frere Gremillion, M.D., is the leading individual sponsor.
“This will truly be a magical evening,” said Libby Gunn, event chairman. “The ballroom will have many unique props, such as a yellow brick road, emerald green lighting — but we don’t want to give it all away. We urge everyone to purchase tickets for this must-see event.”
Event co-chairman Ann Martin says as guests enter
they will be greeted by Glenda, the Good Witch (Marie Joachim); the Wicked Witch (Cathy Shelton Reed); the Tin Man (Joe Martinelli); the Scarecrow (Ellis Branch); and the Cowardly Lion (Anthony Bates).

Artwork is by local artist Marty Wilson. Guests will dine on food prepared by three IP restaurants, sip exquisite wines and bid on silent auction items that include one- of-a-kind artwork from local artists and gifts from local businesses. Music will be by Davis & Sax.
The museum has two major fundraisers each year.
“Our goal, per Director Kevin O’Brien, is dedicated to promoting and preserving the legacy of Biloxi potter George Ohr, celebrating the diverse culture of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and sharing the creative spirit of the internationally known architect of the museum, Frank Gehry. The museum is one of only three Gehry buildings located in the Southeast.”
