oaks see a lot, so to speak. I then pondered the ephemeral nature of childhood and sunsets.”
The exhibition aims to encourage an active connection between the community, WAMA, the work of Walter Anderson, and nature itself. Majestic Visions: The Southern Live Oak Exhibit runs through November 24 and is presented by the Mississippi Arts Commission, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, and the Mississippi chapter of Sierra Club.
And that’s not all the museum has going on during the second half of the year.
Inspired by Walter Anderson’s global travels, The Traveler
is slated for an October opening and is a WAMA campus expansion. Renovations of a 100-year-old home on adjacent property are underway and will serve as a permanent exhibition with indoor and outdoor artworks and installations. Celebrity Chef Nick Wallace is also set to open
Hen & Egg, a restaurant and coffee shop.
“It has a bit of a mid-century Shearwater feel to it,”
Rankin said. “You’ll be walking into an interactive exhibit but also be able to get food and drinks. It’ll be a great place for gatherings.”
Also illuminating the world of Walter Anderson is the 4th Annual Silent Light on December 6 and 7. The glowing disco bash will light up the streets of downtown Ocean Springs and will feature animated projections of Walter Anderson’s timeless designs, performers and dancers, local artists’ installations, and a silent disco with DJs performing to guests’ personal LED-equipped headphones.
