positions Popps Ferry Road along the southern edge of the proposed Sports Illustrated Blue Water Beach Project, which is still working through final financing. This Sports Illustrated project will be a wonderful attraction to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and city leaders are hopeful for an announcement soon as to when ground breaking will occur.
Additionally, the next widening phase of Popps Ferry Road, estimated at $3.3 million, will be bid late this summer or early fall. The project will four lane Popps Ferry Road
to Belle Street. The final phase of the Popps Ferry Road Widening Project is still in the planning stage and will ultimately connect with the four-lane road at the city limits with Biloxi.
Another major roadway project in support of existing and future development is the intersection improvements at Sangani Boulevard and widening of Mallett Road to four
lanes up to Cook Road at the city limits. Survey crews are already working and preliminary plans are being developed for acquisition of right of way. Construction of Phase 1, which includes the intersection upgrades, is anticipated to begin within the next 12 to 18 months at an estimated cost
of $6.8 million. The city is working to finalize funding for the Phase 2 portion of the project.
Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort continues to be a showcase and the city is proud of its success. This past January they renovated one of their restaurants, “Under The Oak Cafe,” to augment their amenities and to offer a great eating and gaming atmosphere here in D’Iberville.
