Technology Programs at MGCCC

Several outstanding programs are beginning in August at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The programs, while spread across the spectrum, all offer those who love technology great opportunities for high-tech careers.
The Health Information Technology (HIT) program combines a profession in health
care with information technology preparing the individual to work
as a technical specialist in Health Record Systems. Playing a key role in improving the quality of healthcare, health information technicians maintain, collect, and analyze data crucial to the delivery of quality patient care. The HIT program is offered under a hybrid platform (part online, part in-class) and includes
an emphasis in billing and coding. Students can complete a career certificate, technical certificate, and/ or the Associate of Applied Science degree.
Also new this year is the
Public Health Technology/ Navigator program. Offering three concentrations in Public Health Technology/Navigator, Dietary/ Nutrition Navigator, and Personal/ Family Services, the program enables the learner to gain experience in one or more specific areas.
Health navigators work in a
variety of settings, including hospitals, patient-centered medical homes, primary care facilities, and community/senior centers. With employment opportunities and salaries growing across the nation, there is a need for trained individuals to assist a growing population in navigating an ever-changing health care environment.
Gamers will love the Simulation and Game Design Technology program, which includes training in game and simulation design in a one- year format. Through a partnership with EON Reality, Inc., MGCCC students will learn to develop augmented and virtual reality content as they train in the state-of- the-art Interactive Digital Center.
The Live Entertainment Technology program is a brand- new program taught in the college’s new Immersive Media Performing Arts Center (iMPAC) at the Harrison County Campus.
The program prepares the
student for entry-level employment in the entertainment industry,
with concentrations in the fields
of concert sound and lighting. Students will learn the fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities to design, maintain, and operate technology systems in entertainment and sporting venues, churches, auditoriums, casinos, convention centers, etc.
The Unmanned Maritime Systems Technology program, offered at the Estuarine Education Center on the Jackson County Campus, offers students the opportunity to learn about drones and how to maintain them.
The program is offered at no cost to eligible individuals and graduates can expect to find jobs in shipbuilding, offshore petroleum/drilling, seafood, transportation, tourism, marine engine, or other maritime heavy industrial occupations.
