JACKSON COUNTY
ROTARY CLUB DONATIONS HELP DAYCARES RE-OPEN
story by Susan Ruddiman photo courtesy of the Rotary Club of Moss Point
T wo daycare centers in Moss Point are able to provide better
indoor air quality for children returning after the centers were closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rotary Club of Moss Point, with help from Moss Point Active Citizens, raised almost $5,000 that went to funding the installation of APCO-X equipment that uses ultraviolet light
to sterilize the air in the environment. Foster’s Air Conditioning and Heating of Gautier installed the UV lights inside the
ductwork in each room of the centers. The facilities are Mary’s Little Lambs
Daycare and Preschool and Little People Learning Center.
“This has helped us re-open. The parents feel safer knowing the UV lights were installed,” said Gwen Kennard, owner of Little People.
When making the donation, Steve Renfroe with the rotary club said the members knew that reopening daycares would help parents to go back to work and stimulate the economy.
IMPROVEMENTS TO
MARTIN LUTHIER KING BLVD.
story by Susan Ruddiman
mprovements are well under way on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Moss Point.
This east-west residential street connects Miss. 613 and U.S. 63, and is home to several churches as well as the Sue Ellen Recreation Center. Area schools and a re department also are served by this corridor.
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors issued a $1.7 million bond that went to the city of Moss Point. Of that amount, $650,000 is being spent on MLK Boulevard, according to Mayor Mario King. Phase I is taking care of underground utilities and culvert replacements. Phase II is a new layer of asphalt.
“The road must be made safer. It’s like an obstacle course, you go left, you go right, you go straight, you go over, under and and around like the ‘Cat in the Hat,’” King told the group of o cials during the shovel turning ceremony earlier in the summer.
Jackson County District 2 Supervisor Melton Harris said the boulevard is signi cant because of its namesake and “it will provide safe travel by citizens for many years to come.”
