LETTER from the editor
There’s plenty happening within the pages of this month’s South Mississippi Living. In addition to the regular sections, there are two special sections — Business & Industry and Main Streets, Downtowns & Chambers.
The area’s business and industry sectors play a major role in the economy and quality of life for all residents. The special section begins with sage advice from four of the Coast’s outstanding leaders. They may not be well known now, but we also spotlight three young leaders who are headed to the top of their industries as they discuss lessons they’ve learned.
Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful article with photo features in the July issue of South Mississippi Living magazine and judging the photos too. You made the photographs as well as the Audubon Center shine. We truly appreciate that you were able
to include something from each photographer and feature our
local Audubon Center in such a positive light. Thank you again for everything.

A two-page spread
about the State Port of
Gulfport reveals the
growth and importance
of this facility to the
whole state. Growth is
also being experienced by two businesses making names for themselves
in their fields, Express Professionals and the Mississippi Export Railroad. You might not be familiar with them, but their impact is being felt. We round out this special section with a piece about the local economy as seen through the eyes of the Gulf Coast Business Council. There are some facts that may surprise you.

The special section devoted to Main Streets, Downtowns & Chambers is full of information about all the exciting things going on in cities across the Coast. If you’ve ever wondered why downtowns matter, several people on the front line of revitalizing and developing downtowns have some convincing answers to that question. There’s an update on that important go-cup law passed a few years ago and a story explaining the value of chamber membership.
In Sports & Outdoors, read about sports betting coming to a casino near you after the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
Dining reviews of two very different restaurants, food writer Julian Brunt’s insightful column and a preview of next month’s Chefs of the Coast complete the Dining section. You will want to mark your calendar for Chefs of the Coast on September 16 as this venerable event goes to a new venue and has a fun Hollywood theme.
