Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is committed to providing excellent workforce training to South Mississippi residents to prepare them for high-demand, high-paying jobs in local industry. Whether individuals need a high school equivalency, basic employability skills, training for a new career and/or additional training for advancement in an existing career, MGCCC offers them the opportunity to excel.
And the price tag for training is not prohibitive. Through grant programs from the state, federal government and industry partners, MGCCC offers a variety of training at no cost to eligible participants.
“It takes innovative community-wide collaboration to ensure that the citizens of South Mississippi have the best opportunities to learn and achieve their educational and training goals,” said MGCCC President Dr. Mary S. Graham. “We partner with federal, state and local government, industry leaders, local businesses and other educational institutions to guarantee our students and trainees have those opportunities.”
This program, offered through BP Restore Act funds, provides basic
and soft skills training that could
lead to industry-specific training or potential employment/internship opportunities. It offers industry- recognized credentials in commercial truck driving, welding, gateway oil and gas training and massage therapy. Massage therapy and commercial truck driving classes will be offered this fall. The gateway oil and gas training and the welding training will begin in 2018.

This program is part of the Adult Education program and helps individuals earn their high school equivalency and gain a skill at the same time. By studying for their high school equivalency exam and taking
15 hours of college credit, students
can gain industry certification and a Career Readiness Certificate. College- level classes in welding and health and human services are offered.

In partnership with Ingalls Shipbuilding, MGCCC offers the pre-apprenticeship program, which targets unemployed or underemployed individuals who are WIOA-qualified and receive a passing score on
the TABE. Students successfully completing this program are guaranteed an interview for the very competitive Ingalls Apprenticeship Program. This training goes hand-in- hand with the Adult Basic Education program in which participants work toward their high-school equivalency, if needed.
