Labor Day weekend marks the 26th year of the Ocean Springs Art Walk, hosted by the downtown merchants. This year’s event will take place on September 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Art Walk was born out of the town’s artsy heritage and promotes local artists and businesses. This year, co-chairmen Katie Hinkel of Lee Tracy and Brandin Brosh of Charisma are expecting between eight and ten thousand visitors to attend. The event will feature creative works such as pottery, paintings, hand-crafted jewelry and mixed media.
In previous years, all artists have been sponsored by local businesses, but this year two vacant lots will be divided and available for artists to rent for a nominal fee. Artists will
be able to showcase their works as well as demonstrate its production. As they register for Art Walk, their photos will also be added to the event’s Facebook page.
“We’re anticipating having live music and fun activities available, as well as restaurant participation with food specials and specialty drinks,” said Hinkel. “It’s going to be great fun and a free event!”

There’s a way to win a new home and help a worthy organization at the same time. Tickets are on sale for the 2017 St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Home Giveaway. The drawing will be held November 24 and all taxes will be paid for the winner. Tickets are $100 with early bird drawings to win cash and prizes.
The home is being built by Foxhole Promise, LLC, at 15021 Dismuke Drive, Biloxi. Proceeds will benefit local charities of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which operates out of the Biloxi Catholic Diocese. Their good works include a community pharmacy, food banks, and help with paying utility bills.
“It’s going to inject a lot of help into our mission, diocese wide, and help with the goal of helping the poor. We’re all called to help the poor,” said Kenneth Powell, president of St. Vincent De Paul.
Designed by Darrell Bell, this beautiful home will feature 11-foot ceilings, an open floor plan, three bedrooms, three full baths, an office, utility room, all appliances and under-the-home parking. It is valued at approximately $300,000 and has 2,110 square feet of living space.
