CLARIFICATION
For the July edition, some corrections must be made for The Final Say about the Biloxi Boom Boom Committee.
The committee was devised in 1974 and led by Tommy Munro of Munro Petroleum.
In 1981, Munro and Tom Murphy sought to appoint a new fireworks coordinator. They appointed Rusty David of First Mississippi National Bank and he has maintained the position for 35 years.
As of 2014, Jerry Munro of Munro Terminal Corporation and Bill Briscoe of Bancorp South are the next generation to work with Rusty David to carry on the Biloxi tradition.
We apologize for any inconvenience these errors may have caused.

12 SOUTH MISSISSIPPI Living • August 2017
LETTER from the editor
Hard to believe, but it’s August, meaning we’re in the dog days of summer with their unrelenting heat and humidity and the year is rapidly passing. A friend asked this week if the months are going by fast for me, to which I answered a resounding yes. Is it just as we get older? Or is it the fast pace of life in general?
At any rate, get comfortable in the a/c, grab a cool drink of some
sort and settle down to read South Mississippi Living. The two special sections are full of informative stories as we pay homage to Main Streets, Chambers & Downtowns plus Business & Industry — all important, viable components of the economy and quality of life on the Gulf Coast.
No one ever says, ‘let’s go to the suburbs’ but ‘let’s go downtown’ infers a bit of excitement. Across the area downtown areas are making a comeback and new businesses are locating there. We have two stories on these themes,
plus others in this
section.
Meet the Coast’s six new mayors in the Business & Industry section where we feature them in a Q&A piece. Also in
this section, we
share a bunch
of impressive
business statistics
from the three
coastal counties,
give some pointers
on cyber security,
focus on some
local workforce
training programs,
tout a new airline, and profile an important state agency.
Editor Lynn Lofton, Rich and Suzy Moss, Wanda Gatlin, Mary Eaves, Ilene Huguley, Marcia and John Shuck enjoy Martini Shakedown benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In Sports & Outdoors, you can learn about lionfish, an invasive species that’s making its presence known, and can find out who to contact if you find injured wildlife.
There’s always something of interest in the Healthy Living section. This month’s features include an amazing weight loss story, along with one about a successful vasectomy reversal and useful information about cataracts and what causes them.
The photos of this month’s feature home will make you want to re-invent your outdoor space into a serene setting similar to this one in Bay St. Louis.
And last of all, we bid adieu to the outgoing mayor of Long Beach, Billy Skellie, in The Final Say.
