LETTER from the editor
Welcome to the August edition of South Mississippi Living. We focus on some of the sectors that keep our region humming with jobs, services, shopping, leisure activities and much more.
The Business & Industry special section highlights the important role these businesses play in the economy of South Mississippi. Businesses profiled cover a wide range, including a bank, automobile dealerships, a supply company, an employment service, a graphics studio, a port, a major shipbuilder, and

a pawn shop. There’s
also an up-to-date
look at how tourism
is rebounding and the burgeoning development in D’Iberville. As a bonus, several Coast CEOs give words of advice.
There’s also a Main Streets, Downtowns & Chambers special section. These organizations are leading the way in making our cities places people want to be. All across
the Coast downtowns
are coming back with vibrant restaurant and entertainment scenes, interesting retail options, and pleasant amenities that include trees, flowers, plants, benches and lighting to give these areas character and charm.

The Coast Notes section is always filled with interesting events and news. This month it includes a piece about a Danish-American settlement in Jackson County and a special needs organization that’s helping others.
There’s a most unusual exhibit at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum Art detailed in the Arts section. Walter Blessey takes a look back at floundering on the Coast in the Sports & Outdoors section. In Living History, we shine the spotlight on the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, an organization celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The Dining section is good, as always, and this month features reviews of two very different restaurants — Louis & The Redhead Lady in Bay St. Louis and tien at the IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi.
Last but not least, here’s a plug for Moonlight & Magnolias, the American Red Cross’ annual fundraiser, which we showcase as a People story.
