I love pie so much. So very much. It’s easily the true Southerner in me. Sweet. Savory. Pie.
I have a weakness for pecan, and my
late grandmother’s chocolate pie with meringue, but sign me up for most any and all pies. Hand pies are quite possibly one of the greatest inventions in modern history because it basically takes delicious pie and makes it portable. Hand pies are convenient, delicious and, well, handy. Pie is great. Pie on the go is utterly blissful. That’s why I was beyond ecstatic when Empanola, a New Orleans based hand pie bakery, decided to give it a go on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Empanola is just as much coffee as it is pie. And it does coffee perfectly. The Caramel Macchiato is delicious with the perfect blend of espresso, caramel and milk. The Coffee Flights are a new addition and have quickly become a
customer favorite. Featuring samples of various styles and flavors of coffees, it’s a great way to try a little bit of everything. I’m a matcha girl to my core, so the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte is my drink of choice. Any of these drinks pair perfectly with Empanola’s house pastries or desserts such the house Blueberry Cheesecake or Apple Turnover.
If a fuller meal is what you seek, Empanola has everything you need. Featuring a full breakfast menu with staples such as a Pancake Flight, Avocado Toast, and Bagels with Lox, it is a great way to start off any day. My personal favorite is the Brioche French Toast. Thick-cut brioche
is soaked overnight in a house French
toast batter, then seasoned with cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg. Fried golden brown and topped with fruit, it’s a decadent meal that’s easy to enjoy.
