 SHOPPING
FOCUS ON FASHION story by Barbara Travis
Whether you stay close to home or travel, vacations call for comfort and ease. Comfortable yet stylish footwear tops the list for making the most of the lazy, hazy days of summer. The number
one shoe on the hit parade of cozy, easy, restful, and fun footwear is the sneaker. By definition, the word “sneaker” describes a wide range of casual or rubber-soled shoes. Their extreme versatility and adaptation of new materials and technology have currently taken over the fashion world and made sneakers somewhat of a fashion status symbol.
STYLES, FABRICS, AND COLORS
There are a multitude of sneaker styles to choose from this summer. Take your pick from sleek and slim to sassy and sporty to pumped-up platforms. There’s something for every personality and every occasion.
The classic white tennis shoe is still a favorite and always a reliable choice. Colors are all over the place with white and neutrals leading the parade and eye-catching street styles in stunning brights such as yellows, pinks, metallics, and prints following close behind. Silver is a seasonal showstopper! Never has there been a wider variety of color or color combinations to suit your fancy and add a punch to your wardrobe.
Fabrication is just as much fun. Other than traditional canvas, there’s everything from leather to heavy-duty lace featured in today’s sneaker shoe construction. Top that with glitter, rhinestone, or other jewel-like embellishments and it’s a party for your feet.
WHATEVER YOU CALL THEM
Stylists think of shoes as the period or exclamation point
at the end of a fashion sentence. Perhaps you should as
well. Whether you call them sneakers, sneaks, kicks, court shoes, or tennis shoes, these comfortable, popular, and stylish foot-cushions are staycation must-haves. Go for it! Pick your favorites, kick your heels up, and enjoy your summer!
