About This Issue
Happy summer, South Mississippi!
While we have several special sections this month, I would first like to talk about the one that is nearest and dearest to my heart: Happy Tails from HSSM. In this special section, we partnered with the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) to share some adoption success stories from familiar faces across the Coast and advocate for the adoption of local animals.
In the case of our family dog, Molly, her story was not a second chance but a third, having been rehomed to
us after being adopted from HSSM. Heartbreakingly, we were not able to include her story in this special section as she passed during production. I did still want to take this time to celebrate her memory and share the 17 years of love we cherished with our sweet Molly girl with you all in the hopes of inspiring you to visit HSSM and bring home a new family member of your own. In doing so you’ll not only change their lives for the better, but they’ll do the same for you.
And now that I’m sufficiently blubbery, I’d like to share some happy news with you. We could not be more proud of our dining columnist, Chelsea Gieselmann, for her recent appearance and victory on the Food Network’s Outchef’d! Chelsea beat out Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, the executive chef at New York City’s Butter Restaurant, in a seafood showdown with her loaded Cajun shrimp with crab grits. Congratulations, Chelsea!
In addition to our standard sections, you’ll also find
a few special sections: Coastal Courtroom, Private Schools, and (my second favorite) Staycations! There’s no doubt about it – Coastal Mississippi is a paradise we are lucky to call home. This month, we invite you to explore all that South Mississippi has to offer, especially the tourist-y stuff that we tend to forget about in our day-to-day. We promise they won’t bite!
