Awards Five College Scholarships
story by Lynn Lofton
Bay St. Louis’ 100 Men Hall has musical and historical significance, and it’s more than that as it awards its second annual college scholarships to high school graduating women of color. This project is possible through the 100 WOMEN DBA, a non-profit operating under 100 Men Hall seeking to levy the members’ collective privileges and blessings to address both the gender and racial biases that Black women face. The membership also supports the maintenance and preservation of the 100 Men Hall.
According to Rachel Dangermond, director and owner
of the 100 Men Hall, college scholarships are awarded to provide a financial boost of $1500 to three young women
of color graduating from Hancock County high schools and home schools.
Additionally, in memory of member Laura Lucore’s daughter Elena Marie Lorenza Lucore, two scholarships of $500 each are awarded. This year’s scholarship winners are Anayah Raelinh Wood, Karima Wallace and Anajah Laneaux. Kiana Han and Jaelyn Acker were awarded the memorial scholarship.
“The scholarships continue the mission of the 100 Men Hall to support the African American community in Bay Saint Louis and Hancock County,” Dangermond said. “The 100 WOMEN DBA scholarships target young women of color who might not have access to full scholarships or family resources for college.”
Donations are accepted all year to replenish the scholarship fund.

Are you ready to shake things up? It’s time for the 19th Annual Martini Shakedown benefiting Make-A-Wish Mississippi on July 15, at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino. Guests will be dancing, martinis flowing and, most importantly, wishes will be granted.
This “can’t miss” event is the largest fundraising event for Make-A-Wish Mississippi – South Mississippi with funds being used to help grant wishes for local children with critical illnesses between the ages of two and a half to 18.
The Martini Shakedown is a fun, resort casual event featuring magnificent martinis, a superb auction, and – back by popular demand – Category 6, who will be glowing and having the guests dancing all night.
Last year’s event sold out and Make-A-Wish is expecting this year’s event to do the same. A limited number of sponsorships are still available, and tickets can be purchased by visiting www.shakedown.givesmart.com.
Unable to attend? You can still support this great cause by making a donation or biding on those hot auction items on the givesmart website and helping to grant the wish
of a local child. For more information, contact smoses@ ms.wish.org or 228.575.8691.
