July is a month of celebration, remembrance, and appreciation for those who have bravely served our community and our country. We in South Mississippi are even more blessed to host a myriad of military bases right here in our backyard.
From Keesler Air Force Base and Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center to the Coast Guard and the Naval Construction Battalion Center, better known as the home of the Seabees, we are truly a military Coast. Speaking of the Seabees, they are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year! Check out their commemorative special section in this issue.
Also in the July issue, we’re shining a spotlight on our South Mississippi Heroes. First responders are an integral part of our workforce and dedicate their lives to serving others. Please join us in honoring these amazing heroes while we listen to their stories and learn more about what the day-to day-lives of first responders.
If you’re looking for some simple but delicious 4th of July sides, be sure to check out this month’s dining column! From refreshing watermelon salad to corn “ribs,” our resident chef has shared some of her favorite recipes that are sure to please the whole family.
Outside the kitchen, learn more about the history of the “American Dream Home,” and how that vision has changed over the years. While styles and technology may have seen some updates, the heart of a home remains the same: family.
