Edgewater Malls Reopens
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
The doors of Edgewater Mall are open, and store owners and their teams are welcoming back shoppers with open arms – following CDC regulations, of course.
“The shops are all following government guidelines concerning public spaces,” says Edgewater Mall Manager Terry Powell. “Shoppers will nd hand sanitizer stations at every entrance and will be served by sta wearing masks. While cleanliness has always been a priority, housekeeping is being extra vigilant.”
In the food court, Powell says that cleanliness standards actually exceed what the CDC recommends. “The tables and chairs are cleaned above and beyond the guidelines, and many restaurants are taking additional measures, such as taping out standing room on the oor, to ensure that social distancing is in place.” After the mall’s o cial opening on May 5, stores were met with the crowds they had been missing for months. “So many people showed up,” Powell said. “It was clear that there was a pent up demand.”
That demand, paired with stimulus checks, led to some stores doubling and even tripling their pro ts from last year.
“We’re thrilled to have shoppers back at the mall and supporting these businesses, but it’s important that we all remember to be safe, follow the regulations, and continue social distancing,” said Powell.
With the reopening of the stores a success, the mall plans to reopen Premiere Cinema early this month.
