O cean Springs is called the “City of Discovery,” and for a good reason. The
quaint, cottage community is known for its artsy vibe and award winning festivals. For
locals and tourists alike, there is always a new experience to discover in Ocean Springs.
“This community is home to hundreds of unique and eclectic shops, restaurants and galleries, all surrounded
by the natural beauty of the Gulf Coast,” says Chamber- Main Street-Tourism Bureau Executive Director Cynthia Dobbs Sutton. “The live oak trees and savannah pines, Gulf Islands National Seashore Park, and local blueways and bicycle trails create year-round opportunities to experience the culture of this coastal gem.”
With so much to offer, it’s no wonder the city has seen
so much economic growth in recent months. “Our sales taxes have been very high and, at times, record breaking,” says Mayor Shea Dobson. “We have contracted with Retail Coach, which is a retail and development firm that is bringing more business. Hotel and lodging taxes continue to grow with additional hotel rooms being added.”
The city recently completed the Porter Avenue project
which extends the entertainment district, linking a major portion of downtown to the beach front. New additions include walking and bicycle paths for Ocean Springs residents and visitors.
“Ocean Springs thrives on entrepreneurs and small businesses,” Dobson says. “Our downtown is full of amazing shops and restaurants for a great shopping experience. We also love our festivals and events. This town knows how to have fun and support our local organizations. Ocean Springs is not just a destination, it’s an experience.”
Ocean Springs has its own charm and character that is enriched by the people and history that have made the community what it is today. “Ocean Springs has proven that its downtown district alone is always alive,” says Sutton. “With very few vacant buildings in downtown, it appears as an outdoor shopping center filled with all locally owned businesses.”
The city has a vibrant quality about it, inviting visitors to spend a day roaming its streets. Its walkability, restaurants, galleries, locally owned shops and year-round festivals make it the perfect place to shop, eat and stay.
