Centered by his family roots in Mississippi and the start of his mother’s business in Gulfport, Calvin Coleman
is a “One Coast” kind of caterer. He has provided memorable and delicious food for hundreds of weddings, anniversaries, community fundraisers, corporate functions and presidential visits across the three coastal counties.
Coleman recently marked his own silver anniversary as the head of Naomi’s Catering, Inc., a company name that evolved from his mother’s long-standing business, Naomi’s Cake Castle. In 1994, after 25 years of cakes and teaching cake decorating and candy-making classes, Naomi Coleman retired and passed the
business to her son, Calvin, Jr.
“It wasn’t just me who bene tted from
my mother’s food. She has touched
so many lives through her cooking,” Coleman said. “I still have people who ask about her, mentioning they took a class from her or that she made their wedding cake.”
Over the years, Coleman has continued to evolve the food he serves, while still offering well-crafted classics that often evoke memorable moments. “We’ve always strived to make each customer’s celebrations the best it can be,”
Coleman said. “It’s a business strategy that’s helped make 25 years of good memories.”
