SPORTS & OUTDOOR
Windance Country Club, affectionately called The Dance, is where breezes might be fickle on most tees, but the perfectly manicured grasses are as predictable as tides in the Mississippi Sound.
The winds were tamed by winners of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic on the Ben Hogan Tour, and major winners undoubtedly used the 1986 McCumber design as a slingshot to the PGA Tour, testament to the design’s demand for accurate drives and precise approaches.
Island View Casino Resort acquired Windance in 2007 and added decorative bridges and native grasses.
The course has hosted several amateur events, including the Mississippi State Amateur in 1989 and 2007, the Mississippi Cup Matches and the Yamaha Coast Open.
All handicap levels will find success at Windance with four sets of tees, but golfers should not be lulled to sleep by the seemingly short yardage. With several risk-reward offerings, The Dance allows golfers to make decisions off every tee, giving them a different look each time they play.
