SPORTS & OUTDOORS coast golf update
Team Mississippi was victorious over Team Arkansas in the 2017 Governor’s Cup played recently at the Hot Springs Village-Granada Course in Arkansas. Mississippi won with 18 points to Arkansas’ 12 points.
Each team included 20 amateur players with Team Mississippi led by captain Brother Sandifer of Greenville. Of those, the following were local members: Brett Parker, Ethan Smith, Brandon Laird, Steve Wilson and Josh Lampley (pictured above).
The team was eager to compete in
the Four-Ball and Foursome that was scheduled, but the rounds for the
day were cancelled due to inclement weather and rescheduled for the next day. Due to the small time frame, it was decided that the teams would play a nine hole match of Four-Ball, nine hole match of Foursome and an overall match for all 18 holes, allowing for all points to be available with a shortened format. The front nine worth one point, back nine worth one point and an overall match valued at one point.
