LETTER from the editor
Welcome to the July 2017 edition of South Mississippi Living where there’s plenty going on with two special sections and the usual assortment of fun, inspiring and informative stories to read, plus photos galore.
The first special section is a big birthday card for the Gulfport Naval Construction Battalion Center as we help them celebrate 75 years on the Coast. We are enriched by having this base and the other military installations located in the area. In addition to the history of the base, we have personality features and stories about the Seabees’ community involvement, especially their role in the Hurricane Katrina cleanup.
We also salute the yearly award winners of the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Association of Realtors with a special section. In addition to information about the value of using a realtor, there are tips on finding the right one along with a piece about the health of this local real estate market and how quality-of-life issues have become a key factor in the buying and selling of homes.
Did you know that sitting is the new smoking? It’s a catchy phrase, but health professionals tell us it’s a real hazard with today’s sedentary lifestyle. Read all about it in this month’s Healthy Living section as well as a piece about the growing use of natural medications.
Frank Wilem shares photos and experiences from his recent diving trip to Cuba in the Sports & Outdoors section. Plus, there is news about Coast golf and tennis winning teams in this section.
SML has been working diligently to grow its Social Media following; most recently through online giveaways. The Summer Fun giveaway featured a total of 24 tickets and six lucky winners, pushing the page ‘likes’ to over 6,000 with the addition of more than 400 new fans. With a
reach of nearly 40,000 viewers in one week, this has been the most
successful giveaway yet! Watch our page this month for two
additional giveaways. We hope all these new eyes on the Facebook
page will increase our current hard- copy readership and
generate new interest.
