Follow your instincts and trust yourself. Do this for you, first and foremost.
Matthew Mavar
RIGHT: MAVAR after losing over 115 pounds.
FAR RIGHT: Before his dramatic weight loss.
Mavar lost weight prior to his surgery with the help of diet and exercise, and continues these healthy habits today. “First off, I gave up soda completely. I also limit myself to one or two meals a week with red meat and I try to cook everything I eat,” he said. “There are those days when fast food is just more convenient, but I do my best to cook everything so that I know what I’m putting in my body.”
Aside from healthy eating, Mavar urges those considering surgical weight loss to make the
decision that is best for them. “Follow your instincts and trust yourself,” he said. “Do this for you, first and foremost. Study the material and learn what needs to change. The surgery only takes you so far, and you have to be prepared to put in the work.”
The South Mississippi Surgical Weight Loss Center has been helping men and women like Matthew Mavar to meet their weight loss goals since their formation in 2000. Founded by South Mississippi Surgeons (SMS), they have provided the Coast with quality surgical care for more than 30 years.
