Outdoors
Paul D. had been hearing a scream
of a panther late in the night, while stirring the fire back up to flame. My son woke me up from a dead slumber wondering what that strange sound was. I informed him that it was a large cat and he shouldn’t fear anything, as long as he stayed close to me.
Spending this kind of quality time and camaraderie with my 8-year-old son and his friend and dad — not to mention the Mississippi Sasquatch — brought back memories of spending time with my grandpa. I can now appreciate the feeling he had when teaching me about hunting, camping and protecting wildlife and wilderness for generations to come.
We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from
our children.
Getting in touch with nature, sharing time with friends and family, and educating children about the outdoors are important. It’s
especially good to keep the natural flow of
the wilderness protected so generations to come can enjoy the memories with their families. I cherish the memories
I have with my grandfather and
hope my son will feel the same.
