ARTS protecting mother nature
THE ART OF CONSERVATION
Cissy McCabe is one of the artists participating. Nature has always been her inspiration and teacher. It also draws her in to see past the surface; to see the layers of creation such as a decaying fishing cottage on the banks of the bayou with the rich neutral colors of the weathered wood that contrast with the warm inviting red of the rusty roof; the embrace of lush, overgrown foliage; the aging majestic shrimp boat with peeling paint and rusty rigging reaching up to the heavens; birds flying over the water like angels flying low with grace and joy. These scenes are her inspiration and in painting them she hopes to share the experience with the viewer and to preserve the heritage of beautiful natural resources.
“LTMCP will pay each artist 20 percent of their work’s selling price at the auction as a way of giving back to these local artists who give so much to their communities,” said Executive Director Judy Steckler. “Many of the artists have used LTMCP properties as their inspiration for many years and feel quite strongly about the preservation and protection of our green spaces.”
The list of local artists for the show is diverse and includes painters, photographers, potters, and sculptors — Mary Anderson Pickard, Barbara Brodtmann, Robert Brooks, Sherry Carlson, Ann Adelle Edwards, Kat Fitzpatrick, Susan Guice, Alison Henry, Elizabeth Huffmaster, Linda
Lang Ishee, Chris Johnson, Stephen Kirkpatrick, Marian Knobbe-Scott,
Jan Marchiarmid, Ann Madden, Cissy McCabe, Vanda McCormick, John McKellar, Marlin Miller, Mary Moran, Brian Nettles, Mae Nicolet, George Perina, Dorothy Roberts, Bruce Seabolt, William Seemann, Robert Smith, Chris Stebly, Sandy Steckler, Henry Stiller, Bobby Walters, and Lisa Watson.
“All works of art will be displayed as if you are taking a walk in the forest to view these amazing pieces,” Steckler said.
This year’s event has a number of local businesses and individuals as sponsors, including Pav & Broome Jewelers who are donating a $5,000 custom-made necklace featuring diamonds and rare Tahitian pearls, and Butch and Andi Oustalet who are donating a fishing trip for six for the live auction.
