Biloxi Regional Medical Center has a new name. The 198-bed hospital is now Merit Health Biloxi, a name that aligns the facility with others under the same ownership in Mississippi.
Merit Health consists of 12 hospitals across the state affiliated with Community Health Systems. In addition to the one in Biloxi, the others are Merit Health Batesville, Merit Health Gilmore Memorial in Amory, Merit Health Natchez, Merit Health Northwest Mississippi in Clarksdale, Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, Merit Health Central in Jackson, Merit Health Madison in Canton, Merit Health Rankin in Brandon, Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood, Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg and Merit Health Woman’s Hospital in Flowood.
The combined network offers 2,300 licensed beds, 2,500 physicians on the medical staffs and 7,000 employees. There are more than 53,000 admissions and 300,000 emergency department visits each year.
Through the affiliation in Biloxi with other Merit Health hospitals, resources can be shared as well as information about best clinic practices, expanded services and easier access to care, according to Lori
Bickel, director of marketing.
“The transition to Merit Health Biloxi has been very well
received by our staff, physicians, volunteers and board members.There are still many projects for us as we change our signage at our main facility as well as our various clinic locations throughout the community,” said Monty Bostwick, chief executive officer for Merit Health Biloxi.
The hospital, located in downtown Biloxi off Reynoir Street, is an acute care facility as well as a psychiatric unit. It offers a broad ranges of services, including emergency care, orthopedics, robotic surgery, women’s health and behavioral health covering Harrison and Jackson counties.
“We look forward to the resources and expertise that will support quality, personalized care provided to patients across the state,” Bostwick said. “We are very excited about the transition of what the future of Merit Health holds for our community as well as the state of Mississippi.”
