Cumbest Realty, Inc., is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Owner/ broker Mark Cumbest started the company in 1975, soon after graduating from USM where he majored in real estate and insurance. He was recognized by the Mississippi Real Estate Commission for making a perfect score on the Real Estate Broker’s Exam.
“The past 40 years have passed quickly,” Cumbest said, “but I look forward to providing the same expert real estate service for South Mississippi for many years to come.”
Cumbest was appointed to the Mississippi Real Estate Commission in 2005 representing the Fourth Congressional District. He is a member of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials which he served as national chairman of the Fair Housing Committee in 2014.
Since 2007, he has served on the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriters Association Board of Directors (the Wind Pool Board) and on the
Wind Pool Reinsurance Committee which advises the board in the annual reinsurance purchases from Lloyd’s of London and reinsurance companies in Bermuda.
Cumbest serves on the Executive Committee of the Gulf Coast Business Council and is one of the founding directors of the organization. He was in the inaugural group of recipients of the Gulf Coast Top Community Leaders program and was inducted into the Roland Weeks Leadership Hall of Fame. He has served as chairman of the Business Advisory Committee of the University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Business and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
In his real estate career, Cumbest was named Land Realtor of America, served as National President of the Realtors Land Institute, Mississippi Realtor of the Year, and was inducted into the Mississippi Realtors Hall of Fame.
He has won numerous Top Production awards including the top two commercial awards for members of the Gulf Coast Association of Realtors’ Top Producer Roundtable for three of the past five years.
Cumbest Realty was the recipient in the small business category of the first annual Anchor Award presented by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. He was in the charter class of Leadership Jackson County and was an inaugural Forever Young Award recipient from the Coast Chamber’s CYP Program.
Very active at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church, he has served as finance chairman since 1989. He also served three years as chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Hour based in Hattiesburg.
