Things have come full circle for Mark Murray, M.D., an allergist with Mississippi Asthma and Allergy Clinic. He is aware of his patients’ symptoms because he had allergies and asthma growing up. Certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, the most rewarding aspect of his career is being able to help people feel the best they can.
“While my asthma and allergies were fairly mild, they were still bothersome,” he says.
“It was not until my medical residency in Chattanooga that I saw an allergist, Dr. Marc Cromie, when I did a clinical rotation at the Chattanooga Allergy Clinic. He treated my
allergies and asthma, and under his care I was able to maintain good control of my symptoms initially with daily medications and eventually with allergy shots alone.”
Dr. Murray was then able to do the things
he enjoyed such as playing soccer and golf. “Knowing the improvement I felt encouraged me to pursue a career as an allergist to hopefully help my patients in the same way,” he affirms. “Asthma and allergies can cause bothersome day-to-day symptoms, but with proper treatment most patients can maintain good control without having to limit their activities.”
He especially enjoys helping athletes with
asthma control their symptoms and compete at their highest level.
“I would recommend anyone who feels they are suffering with allergies or even just have questions about potential triggers to seek the care of an allergist,” he says. “It’s exciting
to see all the new treatment options that are available, including those for asthma, eczema, and food allergies that were not available even five years ago and have the potential to be truly life changing.”
He lives in Ocean Springs with his wife and children, ages 15, 13, and 9. In his free time he enjoys working on home improvement projects, wood working, and golf.
