Peter Casano, M.D.
Dr. Peter Casano is an ear, nose and throat physician at Ochsner Health in Diamondhead. Dr. Casano earned his medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson. He then completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Rhinologic Society and has been practicing for 36 years.
In addition to his career as a physician, he
has begun teaching medical students and other providers about the nasal anatomy and sinus and nasal problems through creating 3D stereoscopic images. These images help bridge the gap between how connected ear, nose, and throat issues are connected to the brain and other parts of the body.
His advice to patients is to be aware of the over- diagnosis of allergies in his field. “Problems arising from allergies are certainly very common, but all too often those with acute or chronic infections, non-allergic inflammatory problems, and anatomy related problems have been treating allergies with no luck,” he says. “Acute viral infections are by far a more common cause of sudden onset of symptoms. If things aren’t working out for you, it’s probably time to see a doctor.”
In his spare time, you can find Dr. Casano fixing his sailboat or classic car. “My hobbies and my work go hand in hand, as I learned early on that I like fixing things,” he says.
