Owner and orthodontist of Bayview Orthodontics and Smiles by Design, Dr. Austin Rahaim has been practicing for 13 years. He was inspired to become
a dentist by his uncle, Dr. Steven Cockerham, who is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
“I saw my uncle as super smart, good with people, fun to be around, and enjoying his career,” he says.
After earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and attaining board certification with the American Board of Orthodontics and the American
Association of Orthodontics, he began
a fulfilling career of helping patients through dentistry. He also has affiliations with the American Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association. For Dr. Rahaim the most rewarding aspect of his career is being able to change the appearance of his patients for the better. He feels the public’s biggest misconception about dentistry is that people think braces are not an option for them. “No matter how bad you feel your teeth are,” he said, “braces can help. This is one reason we made the decision to accept all insurances, so we can provide braces as an option to every person in our
community who needs them.”
His advice is that braces can be a way
to a confident smile for any person regardless of age, finances, or degree of teeth issues. Dr. Rahaim also focuses on treatment plans that provide a smile that has long-term stability, so your teeth will not move after the braces come off.
Dr. Rahaim and his wife Xandy share a beautiful, blended family including their five children. They enjoy all LSU sports events, snow skiing, and family pranks. He lists his favorite thing about practicing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is dining at the many restaurants with his wife and children, especially eating raw oysters.
