Together, Drs. James and Stephanie Phelan own their own practice, Coastal Foot Specialists, all while raising five children. “It’s so rewarding,” says Stephanie. “We not only get to work together, but there’s the added reward of helping others as well.”
“For us, it’s all about helping and healing patients, preventing medical complications, and providing care for those who are having difficulty or cannot help themselves,” adds James.
The duo says that one of the biggest misconceptions about Podiatry is that it’s like getting a pedicure or having your toenails trimmed. “As Podiatrists, we are trained similarly to allopathic medical students the first two years of professional school,”
says James. “We are also trained in foot and/or ankle surgery, reconstruction, wound care, limb salvage, and other foot and ankle sub-specialties, in most cases.”
