Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is nationally recognized for its outstanding work in offering workforce training in the region, particularly in the health care industry, where employers are in dire need of new hires.
Health care remains one of the fastest-growing sectors in the economy today, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimating an 18 percent increase in the number of health care jobs by 2026. While four-year universities and for-profit schools have certificate and degree programs to help fill this demand, they may not have the flexibility or the cost that many students need.
At MGCCC, students can take advantage of 14 programs in nursing and health professions. There are 750 credit and 315 non-credit students enrolled in programs and courses that are offered in a variety of formats from traditional to hybrid with both day and evening/weekend options available.
“Our instructors uphold rigorous standards, including a robust and dynamic curriculum that prepares students for success on the national board exams and developing clinical judgment for the healthcare challenges they will face in
the current and future workforce,” said Dr. Joan Hendrix, associate vice president of Nursing and Health Professions. “We are proud of the outstanding traditional and non- traditional healthcare programs we offer here at Gulf Coast and are always looking for new ways to not only support our
local health care industry but also offer our students excellent opportunities for success.”
The Associate Degree Nursing program is ranked as the top program in the state and sixth in the nation. It has been recognized as the state’s top program for several years.
MGCCC offers many benefits for students seeking health care training. Scholarships and grants are available for
many of these programs, allowing students unprecedented opportunities to earn a degree in health care for little to no cost. Instructors are often experienced and currently working health care professionals, which gives students first-hand, real-world knowledge and experience to take from the classroom to their first career opportunity. MGCCC also boasts state-of-the-art facilities like the Simulation Center located at the Bryant Center and a variety of labs located at the college’s campuses and centers.
With MGCCC being recognized as one of the top community colleges in the country, students can be assured they are getting high-quality health care training tailored
to meet the needs of the industry. They can also be confident their training will lead to meaningful employment opportunities in a sector that is rapidly expanding.
