Stephen Farrow, MD, MBA-AEC, CPE, FACP Executive Director
Dr. Stephen Farrow is NDORI’s Executive Director. Dr. Farrow has 30 years’ federal and academic experience as an internist endocrinologist an geriatrician including direct care and national executive service with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Farrow developed and led the VA’s temporary clinical staffing program which temporarily deployed physicians and nurses to any VA facility worldwide with a clinical vacancy. He also led the collaboration between the VA and Health and Human Services for Public Health Service physicians to care for VA patients. Dr. Farrow conducted human performance research with the Navy’s United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics School (“Top Gun”) and with Naval Special Warfare. His research into cardiovascular complications of hypertension and diabetes emphasizes the severe manifestations in compromised & disadvantaged communities. Dr. Farrow is delighted to help move the Gulf Coast region forward by researching cures for diabetes and obesity, advancing the knowledge and collaboration of our health care professionals, and helping boost the economy and local industries to make a visible difference for Mississippians.
Interesting Fact: Dr. Farrow was a childhood neighbor
of the author of “Apostle in a Top Hat,” the biography of Frederick Ozanam who founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Dr. Farrow and his family now volunteer for this charitable organization.
Mark D. Borchelt, MD, FACE
Endocrinologist
Having practiced medicine for 32 years, Dr. Borchelt has gained invaluable experience in the areas of internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism. As an endocrinologist with NDORI, his main goal is to help patients manage their conditions in a safe and effective manner.
His inspiration comes from his mentor, Dr. Byron Hoogwerf, who taught him that diabetes management is more than just managing the blood sugar. Dr. Borchelt believes that patients should take an active role in their health care and know that they are encouraged to ask questions.
Dr. Borchelt is a member of the American Diabetes Association and serves as an adjunct clinical professor at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Borchelt enjoys fishing.
