Where Retirement Living Becomes an Art Form

Seashore Highlands Retirement Community is the only faith-based nonprofit retirement community on the Coast. “Our priority is the elders we serve and the team we nurture,” says Michelle Daniel, Interim Executive Director & Vice President for Philanthropy. Seashore Highlands is located off John Ross Road off of Hwy 605, just north of I-10, and directly behind First Baptist Gulfport.
Beginning in 1962, Methodist Senior Services (MSS) has served elders in 12 locations throughout Mississippi. Since 1984, MSS has sought to serve the Gulf Coast region and its elders through services such as Gulf Oaks and Seashore Personal Care which were located on Highway 90 in Biloxi.
In 2006, with a new vision of a new retirement community, Seashore Highlands, which would be located farther inland, would expand on MSS’ desire to provide additional senior living options from Villas to Assisted Living and Memory Care.

She says Memory Care is unique in the only Green House® Home on the Coast, which was originated in Tupelo at a sister MSS Campus. “Green House® Homes are nationally recognized by AARP, Forbes, McKnight’s Long-Term Care News,

The Green House® Home at Seashore Highlands is a 10-bedroom Assisted Living house with philosophical values
of Real Home, Meaningful Life and Empowered Staff. “The Green House® Home is based on an organizational structure that is radically different from other eldercare settings focusing on elder- directed living,” Daniel said. “The Green House® Home Best Life Approach provides elders preferences are honored and valued.”
The universal workers, called
Shahbazim (shah bah zeem), protect, sustain and nurture the elders through nursing care, cooking, housekeeping, laundry and individualized activities. The low elder-to-team member ratio provides for meaningful engagement and quality care in a comfortable environment.
