Ever wonder what it’s like to be a pharmacist? Pharmacist Nick Ladner, Owner of Ladner Drugs Inc., located in Woolmarket, Mississippi, is an expert in the field. Holding a PhD of Pharmacy from Xavier University, he has travelled a long road of hard work and education that has led him to serving the local community.

It all started with an early interest in the field of science. Lander says, “Growing up I was always drawn to science. As I got older, I began to dive deeper into chemistry and, eventually, that led me to pharmacy. Becoming a pharmacist gave me an opportunity
to provide for my family, as well as make a difference in my community.” Becoming a pharmacist allowed for him to follow that passion in a way that serves him, his family and, most importantly, serving the people of South Mississippi.
“Being a pharmacist is a challenging and rewarding career. Some days are long, filled with multi-tasking and balancing a variety of problems. Every day holds something different, whether it be working with a new patient, trouble with insurances or the worst case scenario, computer software issues. We take every day in stride and attend to each problem as it arises. In a pharmacy, there is no typical day, just a lot of variables that can need specialized attention at any moment.” Ladner believes this is what makes his career so thrilling and purposeful.
Being a pharmacist is beneficial in ways that are more valuable than financial compensation. “The ability to help my patients have a better quality of life has been the most rewarding.” Being a local pharmacist gives Ladner the opportunity to work closely with his patients and community. Lander Drugs offers specialized attention and extra care in the livelihood of the people they serve.
To anyone that is thinking about becoming a pharmacist, Ladner offers some advice, “First, consider shadowing or working as a pharmacy technician to make sure that you want to become a pharmacist. Start your education early on, stay strong even when times get tough, and never be afraid to ask for help.”
