SPORTS & OUTDOORS all fun and games BACKYARD story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
GAMES
April showers and May flowers give way to beautiful, sunny summer days beginning on June 21. With school out for summer break, there’s no better time to get outside and play with your kids. Check out these easy and fun backyard activities that the whole family can enjoy for very little expense.
Backyard Jenga
Use 2x4 pieces of wood to make a super-sized version of the famous stacking game. You can even paint the edges to add color. Be sure to sand any rough edges.
Use cardboard and paint to make oversized Scrabble tiles and bring your favorite word game into the backyard.
Looking for something fun to do after dark? Just add glow sticks to 10 water bottles and you’ve got your own back yard glow-in-the-dark bowling alley.
This one is pretty self-explanatory: dodgeball... but with water balloons. Prepare to get soaked!
An outdoor twist (pun intended) on an old classic, this game easily trans- forms any lawn into a full-size Twister board. Create 10-inch circle stencils out of cardboard, or even a pizza box. Using contractors marking spray paint will make sure the paint washes away when you’ve finished playing.
