If there were a restaurant category called quirky, Jacks by the Tracks just might be in the national spotlight. As it is, Jacks demands quite a bit of respect from its diehard Pascagoula fans, and
a growing number of followers from further afield, and with good cause. It might be a little out of the way from an overall Coast perspective, the menu just might be, well, creative, but the food is seriously good.
D.J. and Mark Garrison opened Jacks by the Tracks about five years ago and they like to call it a contemporary juke joint. But a juke joint with a menu that is sushi inspired? Really? There is a nice stage and live music draws a big crowd (see their Facebook page for the lineup),
but sushi? I am dubious at first, to say the least.
OK, D.J. did tell me it is Southern inspired sushi and the Garrisons did study under a master, Marisa Baggett,
a Sushi Academe of America grad, and you will have to admit they sure got the plating down pat. The sushi is spot on visually, no doubt.
But, oh, did I mention they also have tapas on the menu? Tapas are Spanish, right? Yep, but the Garrisons thought it fit, so you will find six listings under the tapas heading. I hate to confuse
the issue at hand, but there is also a listing of tacos on the menu. Tex-Mex or Mexican style, who cares at this point?
Let’s cut the foolery and let me tell
