LETTER from the editor
June signals a number of things in South Mississippi, including the beginning of summer with all it’s easy living, vacations and an influx of out-of-town visitors. We have the scoop about many of the area’s events this month.
The best thing in this month’s edition is the annual South Mississippi Living Meet the Doctors special section. It’s something residents have come to know and expect through the years. It’s dependable as a guide to who’s doing what
On behalf of all the Mississippi Gulf Coast pickleball players, thank you for the beautiful coverage you gave us in SML. Loved the layout and James Edward Bates did a great job with the photos. I sent him a message expressing our thanks.

I just saw the Vacation Bible School listings on page 32 of the May
issue of South Mississippi Living. It really does look great. Thank you for including us and getting our message out.

in local health care. We are blessed here. This area has a wealth of medical knowledge and specialists. It isn’t that way in other parts of
the state. Rural areas, especially the Mississippi Delta, do not have
the professionals and facilities we have on the Coast.
Along with profiles of health care professionals, there are interesting feature stories in this section, which we’ve combined with our monthly Healthy Living section. We have a feature focusing on National CPR Week, which is the first week

of June. Also, there’s a
story about the Adams
family of physicians, a salute to School Nurse of the Year Stacy Waldrop of the Gulfport School District, and a piece about the expanding Bienville Orthopedic group of Ocean Springs.
The People story this month shines the spotlight on two of the Coast’s most colorful characters, veteran political consultants Reed Guice and Ted Riemann. After sitting down with these raconteurs, it’s easy to
see why their political campaign liaison is so successful. They have a mutual respect for each other’s strengths and abilities, plus they seem to genuinely like each other. Too bad it’s just a two-page story because they had plenty to say and space doesn’t permit including all of it.
The Sports & Outdoor section is especially good this month with a piece about an outstanding young female golfer, the upcoming inaugural Gulf Coast Marathon, and Kyle Johnson’s story about Cat Island Lodge.
